Mountain biking has become more and more popular in the last few years thanks to the many routes which Lake Garda and its surroundings offer. There are mountain-bike hires in almost every place on the lake and for information you can ask the local sports shops and also tourist agencies.
In order to help you following the mountain-biking routes we recommend you to get yourself a good map for mountain-bikers by every tourist information office, whose location and telephone number are listed in the present guide.
The most important places for the experienced mountain-bikers are the mountains surrounding the lake. Particularly worthy of mention are the northern lake areas among Riva, Arco and Torbole such as the tracks on Mount Brione, the climbing up to Lake Ledro and for the most trained bikers Mount Tremalzo with its breathtaking steep slope along the old military road towards Limone. Such tracks host famous competitions like the "Bike X treme" and the "Bike Marathon".
Thanks to the cableway service from Malcesine to the peaks of Mount Baldo it is also possible to ride mountain-bike at a high altitude with a lot of different opportunities.
Towards the southern end of the lake you can go by mountain-bike on the mountains of Pizzocolo and Mount Spino between Maderno and Gardone Riviera. North of Gargnano there are Mount Denervo and the Valvestino valley leading up to Cima Rest, where you can admire the old haylofts recently restored by the Alto Garda Bresciano Natural Park.
Lake Garda hills offer mountain-bikers interesting routes in the morenic amphitheatre area, among the provinces of Brescia, Mantova and Verona, and along the Mincio river.
